2010 Mill Street Festival
Mill Street Festival Saturday, July 10. Plymouth, WI… The annual Mill Street Festival will be held in downtown Plymouth on Saturday, July 10, 2010 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. This community event offers live entertainment, children’s activities, downtown merchants and other vendors, food and refreshment – a fun day for the entire family! Mill Street will be closed to all vehicle traffic from the corner of Mill & North Streets through the corner of Mill & Caroline Streets for the event. There will again be four stages of live entertainment from classic rock to dancers. “The entertainment aspect is an important element to the success of the festival,” stated Lisa Hurley, Executive Director of the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce.
The Music Stage, sponsored by Sargento Foods and Bank First National, will be located at the corner of Mill and Smith Streets and will feature the following: Real Deal 10 a.m. – 12 Noon: This band offers electric Blues music in contemporary and traditional styles. Members include: Jeff Mallmann of Plymouth on bass and vocals, harmonica; Paul Levandowski of Fond du Lac on drums; Marshall Otte of Sheboygan on Hammond organ, piano and vocals; and Donny known as “Clean Top” of Little Cute on guitar and vocals. The band was formed in 2000 and has three albums to date. They perform at clubs and festivals throughout Southeastern Wisconsin.
Blues Highway 12:30 p.m. – 2:15 p.m. They are a hybrid blues/rock/jam powerhouse from the melting pot that is Sheboygan, WI. No strangers to the area’s music scene, we enjoy sharing the music gumbo we’ve cooked up with our friends, family and fans. If you like a little “spice” in your music and need some nourishment for the sole, BHB is the key to the highway!
Dave Steffen Band 2:45 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. A Mill Street Festival and regional favorite, the Dave Steffen Band has had ten albums and literally thousands of live appearances. Dave Steffen has made music his way of life. Since Dave received his first recording contract at the tender age of fifteen, he has devoted his life to playing, recording and living his music.

Alice In Dairyland (Christine Lindner) / Sheboygan County Fairest of the Fair (Breanna Wimmler) will be speaking on the Family Stage from 11 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. in an effort to education families about the dairy industry in Wisconsin.
Christine Lindner is serving as the 63rd Alice in Dairyland. As Wisconsin’s agricultural ambassador, she is striving to communicate with urban and rural audiences across Wisconsin about the importance of our state’s diverse agriculture industry in our daily lives.
She grew up on her family’s fourth generation dairy farm in Beaver Dam and presently resides in Fall River with her husband. She graduated with honors from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in 2006, earning a degree in agricultural journalism. During her year as ‘Alice,’ Christine plans to use her agri-marketing experience to communicate with audiences how our state’s diverse agriculture industry impacts every Wisconsinite. Following her contract year as Alice in Dairyland, she will be returning as the marketing manager for ANIMART where she’s been responsible for the company’s dairy and livestock marketing, communications and public relations initiatives since 2007.
Breanna Wimmler, a graduate of Plymouth High School, has been named the 2010 Sheboygan County Fairest of the Fair.
Wimmler, is 18, is the daughter of Jay and Kris Wimmler of rural Plymouth. She is attending the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, where she is majoring in animal science with a poultry science emphasis and a minor in biology.
She works for the University of Minnesota-Poultry Teaching and Research Facility and tutors students through the program America Reads. She plans to earn a doctorate of veterinary medicine, a master’s in public health and eventually work within the poultry industry to help improve food safety in the United States.
The Fairest of the Fair serves as a media spokesperson and official host for the Sheboygan County Fair, promoting the enormous variety of opportunities available at the fair, to be held Sept. 2 through 6 this year.
The Plymouth Municipal Band will take the stage from 12 Noon – 1:30 p.m. A local favorite, this band is under the new direction of Branden Mueller.
Randy Peterson’s music has been on the must-play list of children throughout Wisconsin for more than twenty years. He now has fans across the Midwest and coast to coast. He will perform on the Family Stage from 1:45 p.m. – 2:45 p.m. He has produced five recordings, three of which have won awards on a national level. He provides an interactive performance with children from the audience.
NEW on the Family Stage from 3 p.m. – 4 p.m. will be Magic Morgan & Liliana. Matthew Morgan is an award winning magician, who happens to be deaf. Magic Morgan provides entertaining fun for all ages, from young children to sophisticated, jaded adults. He offers stage illusion, magic and comedy. His grandfather introduced him to magic when he was six years old, and he has been fascinated with all things magic since then. He combines humor and mime in his act, and communicates in the universal languages of fun and amazement during his show. Liliana is his trustworthy assistant.
The Acoustic Stage, sponsored by Van Horn Automotive Group, located in front of the Plymouth Arts Center, 520 E. Mill Street will feature:
String Along 10 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. String Along is a group that likes to have fun. The diverse ages of the members makes for many different musical tastes. Everything from bluegrass, country, rock, folk or even polka can be heard during a String Along performance, and the group is always willing to try requests. String Along has played at a variety of venues: coffee houses, bars, nursing homes, pow-wows and even funerals!
Peter Scheuerman 12:00 Noon – 12:30 p.m. Pete Scheuerman brings a mix of acoustic music from simpler times in our country’s past with guitar and claw hammer style banjo. Stories of Americana have influenced this musician who hails from the mid-west. Relive the early days of railways, farming and hard times; all presented in both contemporary and original styles of old- time, folk, and bluegrass. It will feel like just yesterday.
The Red Star Boys 12:30 p.m. – 2 p.m. Several members of the well-known local bluegrass and Gospel band Red Star Express will team together with their bluegrass instruments and harmonies to perform at this year’s Mill Street Days.
They will entertain with a variety of bluegrass, Gospel and Americana tunes. The Red Star Boys group for the day will include banjo picker Galen “Tex” Hunt, mandolin/harmonica player Gerry Jost, Mike Mathes and Eldon Klein on guitar and vocals, along with the group’s newest vocalist, Marilyn Stenske. Joining them for the early afternoon hour will be solo performer Pete Scheuerman, who played as a member of Red Star Express in 2006.
RSE has three recordings to its credit, the latest of which is known as “Gospel Express.”
Vaguely Familiar Barbershoppers / Saddle Tramps 2:15 p.m. – 4 p.m. This group is a men’s a-cappella quartet that performs all types of music. They have performed on stage at the UW LaCrosse Theater in LaCrosse, the Weill Center in Sheboygan, Fox Cities Theater in Appleton to name a few. They have recently appeared at the Harmony Inn in Greendale WI.
Vaguely Familiar was formed in May of 2004. All are members of the Plymouth Wisconsin chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, and sing with the Plymouth men’s chorus, “Hometown Harmony Tradition”.
In addition, one of the members sings with the Greendale Wisconsin chorus, “Midwest Vocal Express.”
Two members of Vaguely Familiar make up The Saddle Tramps ~ “Dusty” (Mike Opelika) and “Lefty” (Jim Weber). They have been picking’ and singing’ together for some time. They will entertain the audience with songs and tales of the old west.
The fourth stage of entertainment is the Youth Stage, sponsored by Orion Energy Systems located in front of Bedford Underwriters, 315 E. Mill Street. This stage will feature:
My So Called Band 10 a.m. – 12 Noon. This group of five musicians who lived, loved, and listened to the 90′s. Inspired by bands such as Blues Traveler, Third Eye Blind, Counting Crows and others, we have brought the catchy lyrics and simple hooks of the 90′s back to this millenium. They dust off the songs that many have forgotten but EVERYBODY still loves.
The Scrubbers is an Irish oriented ensemble from Milwaukee, Wisconsin and will headline the Youth Stage from 12 Noon – 2 p.m. Their musical style has been considered “Irish-Folk-Punk-Rock” for the many roots based in main stream groups, traditional Irish tunes and songs composed by the band. There are six members of ‘The Scrubbers’, five graduates of Plymouth High School and one fiddle player from Milwaukee. They have played at many different venues such as Laack’s Hall in Johnsonville, The Plymouth Arts Center, O’marro’s Pub, and in three other states apart of the Midwest. They have been compared to the musical stylings of The Tossers, Dropkick Murphy’s, The Pogues, and Flogging Molly.
Committing Arson 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. This young up and coming band from Manitowoc, Wisconsin is driven by the musical influences around them and Mountain Dew. They strive to blend various musical backgrounds and tastes into one band. They focus on using all of our favorite genres to create one of our own. Committing Arson has played a myriad of area venues to the 2010 Summerfest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The Cheese Capital Cook-off, sponsored by Sartori Foods will feature main entrees prepared by Chamber member restaurants. The judging will begin at 11:30 a.m. in The Plymouth Medical Plaza. This year’s judges are: Sartori Foods representatives; Richard Baumann, cookbook author and cooking show host; Alice In Dairyland and Sheboygan County Fairest of Fair. The winner of the cook-off will receive a prize, along with the traveling trophy. The public is invited to view the food presentation in the Plymouth Medical Plaza, 515 E. Mill Street.
In an effort to attract attention to the west end of E. Mill Street and add to the festivities, the large inflatable pig will tower over the event, courtesy of Plymouth’s Piggly Wiggly. Bring your camera and be sure to have your photo taken with the “big pig”.

Badger Bouncers will be offering the kids inflatables in the parking lot of the Plymouth Medical Plaza, 515 E. Mill Street near the Family Stage. Wristbands for unlimited use or individual tickets will be available.
Children will have the opportunity to milk a fiberglass cow at the Sheboygan County Dairy Promotions Association booth in front of the Plymouth Medial Plaza.
The festival would not be complete without the participation of more than 125 vendors, including downtown merchants, arts & crafts vendors, and community organizations offering a wide variety of products, services, food and refreshments.
“We are extremely please to announce 2010 is a record year for vendor and downtown merchant participation,” stated Lisa Hurley, Executive Director, Plymouth Chamber of Commerce.
Several downtown merchants will offer sales as well as special features such Book Heads, 216 E. Mill Street.
Author, K.M. Groshek, a Plymouth native, will be signing her series of children’s books entitled Bug’s Adventure at Book Heads from 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Her series of books is enjoyed by boys, girls, young and old alike as the stories demonstrate Bug’s persistence during his journey and the inspiration that comes from never giving up.
In addition, author, Allan E. Ansorge is returning to Book Heads to sign his mystery book Crossing the Centerline from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Also on hand at Book Heads will be Cassy Tully showcasing her artwork greeting cards.
The Plymouth Arts Center, 520 East Mill Street, invites the public to its “Breakfast for the Arts” held in conjunction with the Mill Street Festival event. A delicious homemade pancake breakfast with a variety of toppings and beverages will be served from 7 a.m. – 11 a.m.
The Plymouth Chamber of Commerce will be selling the Plymouth Chamber’s Scholarship 50/50 Raffle tickets. If you are the winner, you get half of the money collected. Tickets are $5 each or 3 for $10. Raffle tickets and Mill Street Festival information will be available at the Chamber’s booth located in front of Tricor Insurance at 307 E. Mill Street. The drawing will be held at Mill Street Festival on Saturday, July 10, at 4 p.m. A portion of the funds from the raffle is allocated to the scholarship for a Plymouth High School graduating senior.
In addition, Laura Schwartz, Plymouth native, will be at the Plymouth Chamber booth signing and selling her newly released book Eat, Drink & Succeed – Climb Your Way to the Top Using the Networking Power of Social Events.
