SHEBOYGAN FALLSĀ  ‘GREAT AMERICAN MAIN STREET’

Sheboygan Falls won acclaim in 1995 as a Great American Main Street. This prestigious recognition is presented by the National Trust for Historic Preservation to only a few communities nationwide. The award recognizes “exceptional accomplishments in revitalizing America’s historic and traditional downtowns and neighborhood commercial districts.” Sheboygan Falls has also received Accredited Main Street Status each year from 2003 to 2009 making it one of the few programs in the state to be so honored.

Listed on the national Register of Historic Places, and perhaps the best collection of authentic historic restorations in the Midwest. Settled in the early 1800′s as the hub of manufacturing in Sheboygan County its Classic Greek Revival frame and Cream City Brick buildings grace its business and residential districts, lending style and character to this historic community. More than forty-five facades have been meticulously brought back to life and rehabilitated to transform the quaint Downtown and Cole Districts.

of restaurants, Shops, and lodging located in turn-of-the-century structures. Just a sample of the charmingly restored buildings house a bed and breakfast, the Sheboygan County Historic Research Center, flower and gift shops, music studios, salons and other businesses. The old city firehouse provides a unique setting for a pizza parlor. A saloon, with gleaming hardwood floors and pressed-tin ceilings, has been returned to its 1878 glory. An 1879 woolen, converted in apartment suites, overlooks the roaring falls of the Sheboygan River.

Fun for all ages the city hosts special events and festivals throughout the year. The July Ductona 500 Duck Race and the August Falls Fest both offer the best in music, food and family entertainment. Sheboygan Falls has four inviting riverfront parks and a scenic riverfront walking trail. It is located just off the Old Plank Road trail, a 17-mile year-round recreational trail, and is one of the communities featured on the Wisconsin Ethnic Settlement Trial.
